Lea Hough’s Education team are able to provide specialist advice to schools in relation to decarbonisation schemes and programmes, including the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS).

Schools are one of the types of public sector buildings that have been identified as being eligible for funding via the government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. The aim of the scheme, for which a total of £1billion has been allocated, is to cut bills and carbon emissions from the public sector to work towards meeting the UK net zero goal by 2050.

The government has so far launched a number of funding rounds via SALIX for which schools can apply for a share of a pot to fund decarbonisation works. More decarbonisation funding rounds and incentives are expected over the coming years as a means of encouraging schools to become greener and improve their existing building infrastructure.

Projects at schools that are most suitable for Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme funding include:

  • Installation of new central heating systems and boilers (particularly to replace oil fuel boilers)
  • Air source heating systems
  • Solar PV panel system
  • Upgrading thermal insulation, including new windows and re-roofing
  • LED light fittings
  • New hot water generation
  • Ground source heat pumps

How can Lea Hough help?

Lea Hough’s school building consultants are able to advise schools in relation to the funding that may be available for decarbonisation projects at any one time. In the first instance, we would visit the academy and provide an initial free-of-charge, no obligation consultation. Where a suitable funding bid is identified, we would work to prepare a tailored funding application to give the best chance of success. There is no up-front fee for this service.

Project management of PSDS works

Upon the granting of any funding, Lea Hough will oversee the implementation of the funded programme of works, ensuring that it meets the standards, timeframes and costs as specified in the funding agreement.
