Lea Hough successfully supported Keswick School in securing Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) for the replacement of its ageing heating infrastructure.
The project involves the replacement of the existing boiler plant, hot water system and Building Management System (BMS) controls serving the school’s Main Building, at the school in the heart of the lake district in Cumbria.
The existing plant had deteriorated in condition and was becoming increasingly unreliable, posing a risk of failure and disruption to the school’s heating/hot water provision.
Following the successful funding application, Lea Hough continued to manage the project through delivery, with the works due to be completed in the coming weeks.
The Works
The project was identified as a high-priority maintenance requirement for Keswick School in Cumbria, due to the condition and age of the existing heating and hot water plant.
The works have involved stripping out the existing plant and installing new boilers, hot water generation equipment and BMS controls.
The new BMS will provide improved control and monitoring of the heating system, allowing the school to manage the system more effectively.
The works have been programmed around the school calendar, with the main installation works taking place during the summer holiday period to minimise disruption to staff and pupils.
Our Role
Lea Hough’s expert team of Chartered Surveyors and Educational Building Consultants supported the school throughout the funding and delivery of the project.
Our role included:
Preparing and submitting the CIF funding application.
Coordinating the design and procurement of the works.
Acting as Contract Administrator.
Monitoring progress and quality during the construction works.
Liaising with the school, contractor and other project team members throughout the project.
The Outcome
The works have addressed the ongoing issues associated with the existing ageing plant and provided Keswick School with a reliable heating and hot water system.
The new controls also give the school improved control and monitoring of its heating services, helping to improve the day-to-day management of the system. The replacement plant and improved controls will also improve the efficiency of the heating system and help reduce the school’s energy consumption and heating costs.
Lea Hough is proud to support schools across Keswick, Cumbria and the wider Lake District region with CIF funding applications, building consultancy services and the successful delivery of essential education sector projects.
