Lea Hough successfully supported Haveley Hey Community School in Wythenshawe, Manchester, in securing Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) for a major heating replacement project within the school’s Bridge Building, which provides specialist SEND provision. The school forms part of the Children of Success Schools Trust, a growing Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) serving communities across the North West.
The project was developed in response to the condition of the building’s existing heating system, which had become increasingly unreliable and was no longer providing adequate heating throughout the building.
Following the successful CIF funding application, Lea Hough continued to manage the project through to completion.
The Works
The existing heating system had reached the end of its operational life and was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.
The project included:
- Replacement of the central heating distribution system throughout the school building, including new heating pipework and emitters.
- Installation of two new high-efficiency gas-fired condensing boilers.
- Replacement hot water generation plant.
- New Building Management System (BMS) controls.
The project was programmed to coincide with the school’s summer holiday period, to minimise disruption to the school.
Our Role
Lea Hough worked closely with the school and Trust to develop the project brief and secure Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) for the heating replacement works.
Our role included assessing the condition of the existing system, developing the proposed replacement scheme and preparing and submitting the CIF funding application. We also collated evidence of the condition issues and the impact of continued failures on the operation of the building.
Following the successful funding application, Lea Hough continued to manage the project during the construction phase, through to completion.
The Outcome
The works have addressed the ongoing issues associated with the existing ageing plant and provided a reliable heating system for pupils and staff. The new BMS controls also provide improved monitoring and control of the heating system, helping the school to manage its heating services more effectively.
The new boilers and improved controls are also expected to improve the efficiency of the heating system, helping to reduce energy consumption and running costs.
