For many people, Chartered Surveyors are associated predominantly with house surveys; the professionals to call upon to undertake survey inspection and Valuation Reports when buying a house.

Although this is a big part of our work, it is by no means all that we do.

In fact, many people are very surprised to hear of the wide variety of buildings and properties that we can turn our hand to inspect. From commercial property to agricultural land, retail to education facilities, if you can name it, we’ve probably inspected it!

The type of work we are asked to undertake can also vary widely. Often, we are instructed to provide Valuation Reports for properties in relation to a pending transaction or for insurance purposes. Undertaking a full Condition Survey of a property prior to a sale, lease, or in relation to a dilapidations claim is another common reason for clients to instruct our services.

Conversion and adaptation reports, feasibility studies of sites in relation to development projects, planning applications and project management of works are other services we are commonly asked to provide in relation to non-domestic buildings and properties.

Here is a small selection of some of the more interesting properties we’ve been asked to look at over recent years…

  • Nightclub in Wigan
  • An underground munitions bunker in Lancashire
  • Sports and Social Club with shooting range in Cumbria
  • Boathouse on Lake Esthwaite, Lake District
  • Public toilets in the Ribble Valley

  • A guest house in Windermere
