Gareth Clarke Spotlight

Since joining Lea Hough in 2016 and becoming Chartered in 2018, Gareth Clarke has played a key role in the firm’s Building Surveying team. With a wealth of experience in commercial and heritage projects, Gareth brings a meticulous approach to every project he undertakes.

Recent Project Highlight

One of Gareth’s standout projects in recent years has been the repair and restoration of 123 – 125 St James Street, Burnley. This project involved the full refurbishment and restoration of a vacant property in Burnley Town Centre. Gareth managed the process from start to finish, overseeing full design work, securing Planning and Building Control Approval, and handling Contract Administration through to the property’s handover to its new tenant. The project was part-funded by Historic England, adding an extra layer of significance to the restoration efforts.

Gareth’s day to day role

Gareth’s work is incredibly varied, but his main areas of expertise are pre-acquisition surveys on commercial premises, landlord and tenant dilapidation matters, pre-lease matters, and the design and specification of heritage and commercial projects. Working on historic buildings is something Gareth particularly enjoy, ensuring their character is preserved while making them fit for modern use.

Area of focus

From a geographical perspective, Gareth has many connections to Burnley. Having worked on many projects in the area and his professional connections in the town, Gareth has built up a reputation for helping landlords and tenants within the town.

Favourite building

Gareth’s favourite building is, “without a doubt”, the Basílica de la Sagrada Família – Gaudí’s incredible, still-unfinished masterpiece in Barcelona. The sheer scale, intricate detail, and blend of architectural styles make it a truly awe-inspiring place to visit.

Life Outside of Work

Outside of his professional life, Gareth enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son – whether that’s cheering on his son’s football matches at the weekend or heading to Turf Moor to watch Burnley FC in action. A keen music enthusiast, he loves attending gigs with friends, collecting vinyl records, and even DJ-ing occasionally!

With a strong track record in heritage projects and commercial surveying, Gareth is a key part of the Lea Hough team. His expertise, combined with his passion for bringing buildings back to life, makes him an invaluable asset to both clients and colleagues alike.
