The academy’s science facilities dated back to the construction date in 1967 and hadn’t undergone refurbishment since. The science block exhibited signs of failure and defects throughout, resulting in health and safety concerns. Full refurbishment of the Science Labs was performed, which brought the facilities up to a good standard and further enhanced the school’s reputation in this field. The expected effective life of the new facilities is 20 – 30 years and will result in significant financial savings, due to the improved energy efficiency and decrease in maintenance costs.
All works were funded via the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) with Lea Hough having prepared the CIF funding application (on a no-charge basis) on the academy’s behalf, prepared all specifications, designs, drawings, tendered the works to achieve competitive tender prices and carried out full project-management through to overall completion.
