Full height glazed curtain walling in the academy’s Gymnasium was single glazed and over 30 years old. It was at the stage where the cost of repairs to bring the components up to a good standard was prohibitive. It was not safe and also had a poor thermal efficiency. The existing timber framed curtain walling was replaced with new high-performance, double glazed curtain walling with opening casements which improved ventilation. The works brought the external components of the Gymnasium up to a good standard and added 40+ years to the lifespan of the building component.
All works were funded via the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) with Lea Hough having prepared the CIF funding application (on a no-charge basis) on the academy’s behalf, prepared all specifications, designs, drawings, tendered the works to achieve competitive tender prices and carried out full project-management through to overall completion.
