The DfE have this week announced the launch of a new Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) round for projects to take place in 2025/26. This is a significant opportunity for schools and education providers in England to obtain funding for essential repairs and improvements to the condition of their buildings. The CIF is one of the flagship funding opportunities provided by the DfE for improving the overall quality of learning environments and supporting the delivery of high-quality education.
The Details
The 2025-2026 round is now open and applicants can submit their funding bids until noon on Tuesday 17th December 2024. The CIF focuses on addressing key building issues, such as energy efficiency, safety, accessibility, and ICT connectivity.
The DfE have made a series of changes to the Guidance for Applicants Document, including updates to the application process. It is therefore important that academies / MAT’s appoint an experienced School Building Consultant who is adept at navigating the portal.
To be eligible for CIF funding, applicants must meet specific criteria set by the DfE (more information can be found here). The DfE will consider factors such as the condition of the building, the level of need, and the potential impact of the project on teaching and learning.
The grants provided by the CIF can be used to carry out a wide range of capital works. This may include the repair or replacement of roofs, windows, heating systems, electrical infrastructure, and the fabric of the building. Funding can also be used to improve accessibility for disabled pupils, install new toilets and washrooms, or update ICT facilities.
The CIF also has a small percentage allocation for expansion projects.
