After significant design, planning and preparation work, Lea Hough are delighted to see the contract works commence on site for a six-storey extension that is being constructed to Rochdale Sixth Form College.
The College is a high-performing, with an Outstanding OFSTED rating, and is at capacity in terms of pupil numbers, and desperately needs to expand to cope with pupil demand.
Having first received the brief from our client, the College, a couple of years ago, since then we have assisted with securing funding and obtaining Planning Permission.
The current building is a modern structure, with six-storeys. A very tricky project due to difficult accessibility, and a tight site with the River Roch running alongside the site boundary, the only option is to build an extension on the side of the College, which will have a relatively small footprint, but will be constructed six-storeys high.
Lea Hough’s role is Project Manager and Client Representative. Throughout the design and procurement process, Lea Hough brought together a team of Architect, Structural Engineer, M&E Services Engineer, Geotechnical Consultant, QS/Cost Consultant, Transport Consultant, Ecology Consultant, CDM Adviser, Planning Consultant, Fire Consultant and BREEAM Assessor as part of the project team, all led by Lea Hough Chartered Surveyors.
Design drawings were prepared by the team, and Planning Permission was secured for the large extension, which was an achievement in itself, requiring a lot of hard work from the project team, including extensive liaison with Environment Agency.

Our client was delighted with the funding approval, which was a major achievement, and it allowed eh project to progress.
The appointed contractor (Hargreaves Contracting) has now commenced work on site, with site set up complete, and preparation works are underway for the installation of the piled foundations which will be installed imminently.
