A scheme to form new a new Alternative Provision (AP) is well underway at Birchwood Community High School in Warrington.
Lea Hough have designed, specified and are project-managing the works from initial feasibility, through to full delivery.
The project involves the remodelling and refurbishment of the former community library area, which was adjacent to the existing school.
There was in need to create a new AP Provision in the local Warrington area, and the council’s former library was surplus to requirements, and had a tired and dated appearance.
The refurbished space will form a new AP teaching provision, to provide an educational setting for AP / SEN pupils, outside of mainstream education.
The remodelling works will result in new teaching spaces, calm rooms, meeting rooms, offices, toilet facilities, staffroom, multi-purpose rooms, and a new reception foyer/secure area. The works will also create a new external play area for pupil use.
Birchwood High School is a large secondary school in Warrington, and is part of the One Community Trust.
The project will be part funded by Warrington Borough Council and the One Community Trust.
The project is programmed to be completed in mid-August 2024, so that the new AP Provision is up and running for the new academic year in early September.
Prior to the works commencing, our team prepared feasibility ideas and a budget estimate, and assisted our client to secure funding for the scheme. Following this, we prepared design drawings, specification for the refurb, arranged Building Regulations approval, sought tender prices from contractors. Now we are acting as Contract Administrator as the works progress on site, as well assuming the Principal Designer role.
We look forward to the completion of the works, creating a new high-quality education facility for the pupils and for our valued client.
