Lea Hough were appointed to provide School Building Consultancy services in connection with the refurbishment and remodelling of a Food Technology classroom at Rhyddings High School in Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, together with associated toilet refurbishment works.
Our Role
Lea Hough oversaw the project from initial design development through to completion on site, in the roles of principal designer, contract administrator and project manager. This included the preparation of specifications and tender documentation, contractor procurement, and ongoing cost control and programme management throughout the duration of the works.
The Project
The scheme comprised the upgrade and reconfiguration of an existing teaching space to create a modern, functional environment suitable for practical learning. Works included the removal of outdated fixtures and fittings, followed by the installation of new bespoke fitted furniture and specialist teaching equipment designed to support contemporary learning requirements. Specialist food technology furniture and equipment were a key element of the project, with the replacement of existing flooring with durable flooring, and hygienic and hard-wearing wall finishes.
Mechanical and electrical works form a key element of the project, incorporating improved lighting, power provision, air conditioning provision and ventilation systems to ensure the space is safe, compliant and energy efficient.
The boys’ WC facilities were also refurbished as part of the scheme, including the installation of new sanitaryware and cubicles, together with new flooring and wall finishes and complete redecoration.
Delivery
B&G Sears were appointed as main contractor, with Glendale responsible for the supply and installation of the food technology furniture.
The works were undertaken within a live school environment which meant careful planning to minimise disruption to staff and pupils. Thorough consideration was given to phasing and programme management to minimise disruption to the school’s day-to-day operations, ensuring that the works were delivered efficiently and safely.
Lea Hough Chartered Surveyors were delighted to support LET Education Trust in delivering these enhancements, which significantly improved both teaching and welfare facilities, providing a lasting benefit to staff and students alike.
