A number of schools across Cumbria have benefited from improvements after securing funding during 2022 via the Department for Education’s (DfE) School Condition Allocation (SCA) and Condition Improvement Fund (CIF).
Lea Hough has provided ongoing project management advice to several schools and academies in Cumbria and the South Lakes over the last 12 months after having helped them to secure SCA funding in the 2022/23 funding round.
Our team of School Building Consultants are currently working with several schools in Cumbria and the South Lakes to apply for SCA and CIF funding in the recently announced round for 2023/24. Our team are also consulting with a number of schools in the area about Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) funding.
The projects we have been involved with include:
- Playground resurfacing project at a primary school in Orton
- Refurbishment project at a primary school in Keswick
- Extension and internal alterations at a primary school in Langdale
- Asbestos removal and electrical safety improvements at a school between Penrith and Carlisle
- Boiler replacement project at two primary schools in Kendal
- Boiler replacement project, pitched roof refurbishment and flat roof replacement at a primary school in Grasmere
- Boiler replacement project at a primary school in Keswick
- Electrical re-wiring and new LED lighting at an academy school near Milnthorpe
- Asbestos removal at a high school in South Lakes
- Roof replacement works at a school in Sedbergh
- Electrical re-wiring and new suspended ceilings and LED lighting at a primary school in Barrow-in-Furness
The nature of a number of the improvement works undertaken – especially those involving central heating system upgrades – will provide ongoing to benefits to the schools in relation to energy costs and help them to work towards decarbonisation. Where boilers and/or heating systems are being replaced, the new systems are often much more energy efficient and come with much better controls for isolating zones and areas. Our School Building Consultants are also increasingly providing advice on heating systems that use renewable heat sources (instead of gas boilers).
Schools that are looking into funding options or would like to discuss the various streams available are invited to get in contact with our School Building Consultants.
