One of our Chartered Building Surveyors has recently provided a “Careers Café” at a high school in Bolton for Year 7-Year 11 students who may be interested in a career in the surveying/construction industry.
Our Surveyor was invited to the school and asked to provide a presentation to the group of 30 students about our profession.
Subjects covered were:
- What Chartered Surveyors do
- Different disciplines of Chartered Surveyors
- Best routes to becoming a Chartered Surveyor
- Benefits of choosing Surveying as a career
- Different types of building that we inspect
- Types of projects that Surveyors deal with
- Specialisms of certain Surveyors
- Interesting projects that we’ve worked on
- Rewarding aspects of the job
The students that attended the talk were a great audience and asked lots of interesting questions about the routes to becoming a Chartered Surveyor. There seemed to be lots of genuine interest in the profession and the careers that are on offer.

Another way in which we can work with schools is to assist schools with mock interviews. This is something our Surveyors have been involved with in the past and involves students in Year 11 attending an interview-style meeting in which questions are asked by an interviewer to prepare them for any job interviews that they have once they leave school.
