The construction works are progressing well at Little Lever School in Bolton, where a large two-storey extension is being added to the original main building.
The purpose of the project is to enable the high school to expand and increase the number of pupils on roll. This project is being delivered in conjunction with the Education Department at Bolton Council, as more school places are required to cater for a the number of pupils at 11-16 age-group in the Bolton region.
This extension constitutes Phase 1 of a two-stage expansion project, which will be undertaken in phased over two years.
This Phase 1 extension will provide two classrooms on the first floor, as well as an extended dining hall on the ground floor. Additiopanlly, there will be a disabled persons’ lift, fire escape stairwell and corridors and other ancillary space.
Lea Hough’s role has involved assisting the school to develop proposals and secure funding for the project, followed by full design and project management.
We have prepared design drawings to meet the school’s brief, and then obtained Planning Permission from Bolton Council, and managed the project along the way. This has involved preparing budget estimates, developing more detailed drawings, overseeing other sub-consultants such as structural engineers and ground investigation consultants, followed by full specification, tender process and analysis of tenders.
The main contractor commenced works on site in March, and the foundations are now installed along with the steel frame. The next stages will be the installation of the floors and the roof.
We look forward to seeing the project develop over the next few months, with completion intended for December 2025.
