Lea Hough Chartered Surveyors are delighted to be managing the delivery of a new replacement classroom block at a primary school in Stoke-on-Trent.
The project involves the removal and replacement of a previous deteriorated classroom, providing the school with a modern, energy-efficient modular building designed to enhance the learning environment for pupils and staff alike.
All major works were carefully scheduled to take place during the February half-term break, when pupils and most staff were off-site. This approach ensured the highest standards of health and safety could be maintained whilst significantly reducing disruption to the school’s day-to-day operations. Due to the complex site logistics involved, including deliveries, cranage and contractor access, timings were vital safely and efficiently manage the project within a tightly controlled programme.
Modular installation
The new classroom block has been manufactured off-site and was delivered to site in sections. The modular units were successfully craned into position and secured in place, representing a key milestone in the programme.
To protect the school grounds during installation, temporary trackway was installed across the yard area, preventing damage from heavy lifting equipment and delivery vehicles.
Current works on site
Following installation of the modular units, works are progressing at pace, including:
- Electrical connections to the distribution board
- Installation of external air conditioning cassettes
- Internal flooring installation
- Ground reinstatement works and finishing to external areas
The focus now is on completing final connections, internal finishes and external reinstatement to ensure the classroom is fully operational for the return of pupils.
