Supporting the Future of NHS Whalley: Lea Hough’s Role

Lea Hough Chartered Surveyors is proud to have played a role in supporting the future development of one of the National Health Service’s largest estates in England. Our team has recently undertaken survey work at a number of properties on the 106-acre Whalley site near Clitheroe. The surveys provided up to date and accurate information to help inform Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust as they embark on a new 10-year masterplan for the site.

About the Whalley Site

Formerly part of the Mersey Care estate, the Whalley premises were acquired by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust in April. This historic site off Mitton Road has already seen the opening of a new 32-bed mental health unit as part of ongoing efforts to improve mental health provision in the region.

The Trust has set out ambitions for a comprehensive masterplan over the next decade that will guide future development. This plan will help ensure the site is fit for purpose for generations to come while delivering high-quality, modern healthcare facilities for local communities.

Lea Hough was instructed to conduct detailed surveys of several properties across the Whalley site. Our work provides the Trust with essential information about the condition and characteristics of existing buildings; critical for planning maintenance, upgrades, or redevelopment in line with the masterplan.

Our surveys covered aspects such as structural integrity, building fabric, and overall condition. We then followed up with clear, accurate and practical reporting to help ensure that resources can be prioritised where they are needed most.

Survey reports of this nature are vital for large-scale estates, especially when planning significant, phased investment over many years.

Supporting Public Sector Clients With Strategic Planning

Lea Hough is proud to support projects that improve local services and infrastructure across Lancashire and the North West. The Whalley site has a long history and plays an important role in delivering specialist healthcare.

At Lea Hough, our detailed condition surveys and wider building consultancy services allow strategic estate advice to clients across the public and private sectors. For projects like this one, our goal is to provide clear, expert insight that supports good decision-making and long-term value.
