The Department for Education has officially opened the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) 2026–27 round. This is a key annual funding opportunity for academy schools and sixth form colleges to secure grants for essential building repairs, health and safety works and compliance improvements.
At Lea Hough, we’re encouraging all eligible schools to begin preparing now. With the fund always oversubscribed, early action gives you the best chance of success.
Key Dates for CIF 2026–27
The key dates for this year’s funding round are:
- Portal opens: 21 October 2025
- Registration deadline: 12 noon, 9 December 2025
- Application deadline: 12 noon, 16 December 2025
- Project completion deadline: 31 March 2028
Every year, the CIF attracts a large number of applications, with only a small proportion of bids attaining. To have the best chance of being successful, bids should clearly demonstrate need and be well-supported by evidence. It’s also key that the right type of project, that aligns with the DfE’s priorities, is put forward.
Getting started early allows schools time to identify key building issues that meet CIF criteria and prepare essential documentation such as reports, costings and governance approvals.
