BLOG: Why I #LoveLancashire – Chris Atkinson
Name: Chris Atkinson
Position at Lea Hough: Chartered Building Surveyor
I’m originally from: Clitheroe
I live in: Clitheroe
I chose to live there because: I was brought up in the town and my family live in Clitheroe. It is a quiet market town and there are plenty of places to explore locally within the town and around the Ribble Valley.
How long have you lived there? I have lived in Clitheroe all my life; my wife is also from the town and we have set up our family home there with our 2 children.
I like living there because: The high street has some fantastic shops such as Byrnes wine shop and Cowman’s sausage shop. Clitheroe Castle including the castle grounds are nice with excellent views from the castle keep.
My favourite things to do locally are: Most of my time is spent looking after our two children, when I have free time I’m often out and about walking my dog or cycling. I’ve also started doing the local park run which I particularly enjoy competing against other runners. Recently an old Mill was converted into a brewery, I enjoy a pint in the old chimney room occasionally!
The best hidden gem in my local area is: The Ribble Way, a lovely circular walk from Clitheroe to Grindleton can be done with wonderful countryside along the river side. If your lucky you may see a kingfisher or deer on the route. The walk can be extended through Brungerley park if you want to explore further!
Three reasons I would recommend my area to people: It is a great place to live with close links to the country side and rural villages within the Ribble valley. There are a number of popular eating establishments and there are plenty of local sports facilities for everyone to use.
Favourite local building:
Clitheroe Castle Keep, it can be seen from around the town and has stood the test of time.
